Week 10

We have finally made it to halfway through the semester! I am so impressed with our group and how well, Taylor in particular has planned all of our interviews. I am thrilled at how many interviews we have already made it through and am excited to see what this means for our final product. I think by getting lots of material we are solidifying that our project will look good. This week we have a few more interviews and then we are going to start working hard on getting lots and lots of b-roll.

I am confident in the footage we are getting but I am eager to start seeing the editing we do to make this story come together. I believe this story has become so much more than just who lives where and I think through editing we can showcase that. We have a few days where we need to present what we have been working on coming up and I will be interested to see the classes opinions and suggestions.

Week 9

Getting back from Spring Break was definitely a tough week for the whole group. I was lucky enough to remember to get the equipment request in on time and therefor we have equipment ready for our shoot on Friday with the director at Carolina Bay. This week Taylor has worked hard to begin putting together some footage that we can show in class on March 16th. We have already done so many interviews as a group that we are currently working with a lot of footage. This is making it difficult to narrow down exactly what we want the audience to see.

I believe it would be best if as a group we sat down and really began to think about what we want this documentary to say and how we will show that through our overarching theme. We still have a few interviews to go and if we had more of a specific theme now we could redo some of the questions to be more specific towards this theme. Overall though I am excited about where this documentary is heading and the stories we have already gotten on film. As a group I think we are working effectively and communicating well enough that the pieces of this documentary are coming together!

Week 8

I was gone for all of spring break so unfortunately I wasn't able to be at the shootings the group had. I hear that the one with the Gerontology professor went really well and I am eager to see how the two perspectives from the professors help give the film ethos. This Friday there is an interview set up with the woman from Carolina Bay. I have heard great things about Erin so I think her interview will be very lively. Carolina Bay seems to be a beautiful new retirement home so I am excited to get even more footage from there! Hopefully soon we can get my Aunts interview so that we can stop interviewing and start editing.

Week 7

Our interview with Cathy and Steve went really well this weekend. They are the sweetest couple and were so welcoming. It was a wonderful first interview to have done. When we got there we all started unloading and then while everyone was setting up I kept Cathy and Steve company and got them talking about their lives and tried to get them to open up even before they got on camera. Before we left for the day we were able to get some B-roll as well, so all in all it was a very productive Saturday. Yesterday we did two more interviews! We went downtown and interviewed a man named Doug and then went to campus to interview one of the Gerontology professors. Both of those interviews went exceptionally well and I am so happy with how nicely everything is already coming together. I feel like we are already getting some great interviews that I am eager to see how it will all come together. On Friday the group has another interview with the other Gerontology professor, but I wont be able to be there because I am headed off for spring break early. I will be interested to see the footage from that when I get back!
